Enjoy a creamy chocolate banana milkshake without the guilt! This chocolate banana shake is sweetened without any added sugar and is satisfyingly delicious. This sweet treat is dairy-free, paleo, and gluten-free.
When my family hears the word milkshake, they come running. I love that I can “treat” them to this chocolate banana milkshake without any guilt. They can enjoy it for breakfast or as a snack, since this chocolate banana shake has added protein, fiber, and fat. It is the best of both worlds – it tastes like a sweet treat, but is packed with nutrition!
Tips for making this chocolate banana milkshake:
- Don’t forget to put some bananas in the freezer the day before you make this. Frozen bananas give this shake the creamy, shake-like texture.
- If you don’t have any dates on hand, you could substitute maple syrup or another sweetener.
- Feel free to use vanilla or plain dairy-free milk – just add another couple tablespoons of cocoa powder to add some extra chocolate flavor. If you can find it, I love almond breeze chocolate almond milk!
- You can substitute any nut or seed butter for the almond butter. Peanut butter is really good as well!
How to make this recipe:
There’s really nothing to it – just add all the ingredients to the blender, blend on high for a minute, and enjoy!
Is a banana milkshake healthy?
I can’t speak for all banana milkshakes, but I would consider this one healthy. I’m a big believer that there aren’t any “bad” foods, but I like different foods for different purposes. If I want a super decadent treat full of sugar, I may choose a fast-food banana milkshake. And while I wouldn’t consider it healthy, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with drinking it. What makes THIS shake healthy is that it has no added sugar, is a good source of calcium, and has a good blend of protein, fiber, and fat. Most traditional banana milkshakes don’t have that. 🙂Print
