The embryo is the immature multicellular creature within the seed before it emerges. The endosperm is mostly composed of starches and is a source of stored nourishment. One or more protective layers surround the seed within the seed coat. Following fertilization and the initiation of a zygote, a seed begins to produce an embryo.

The term “seed” can also refer to anything that can be planted, such as potato “seeds,” maize “seeds,” and sunflower “seeds.” In the case of sunflower and corn “seeds,” the contained seed is sown, but potatoes are tubers. In blooming plants, the ovary develops into a fruit that contains the seed and disperses it.
Numerous formations typically known as “seeds” are actually dried fruits. Sometimes, sunflower seeds are sold commercially while still encased in the tough wall of the fruit, which must be broken to access the seed. The so-called stone fruits (such as the peach) contain a coating of fruit (the endocarp) that is bonded to and surrounds the actual seed.
Nuts are the hard-shelled, single-seeded fruit of certain plants with an indehiscent seed, such as the acorn and hazelnut.

Embryo flash migration toward the cervix following ET (cervical-left and cervical-right regions) may reduce the pregnancy rate and raise the risk of ectopic pregnancy. Due to the possibility of ectopic pregnancy, the region immediately next to the fallopian tube openings (horn-left and horn-right zones) is likewise unsuitable for embryo implantation.
