The Tar Heels had a 42-24 halftime advantage and never looked back, cruising to a 30-point home victory.
UNC improved to 13-2 with the victory, while Marquette fell to 7-6 overall. Brendan Haywood ended the game with 17 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks. Peppers contributed 13 points and nine rebounds.

They are in the East Region and will face the eighth-seeded Tar Heels in the first round. At this point in the season, Marquette is 19-12 after going 11-8 in Big East play and finishing as the fifth seed. They fell to Creighton in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament for the third time this season.
As a Milwaukee sophomore, Justin Lewis has developed into a First Team All-Big East performer in both scoring and rebounds. The Tar Heels are 24-9 overall and 15-5 inside the ACC. They defeated Virginia in the opening round of the ACC tournament before losing in the semifinals to eventual winner Virginia Tech.
