Sparkling Citrus Spritzer Drink

Enjoy this bubbly, citrus drink with very little prep work needed.  With only 3 ingredients and 5 minutes of prep, it’s great for enjoying with friends and family!  Bonus: It is Paleo, Whole30, and AIP friendly.

Some days just call for a sparkling drink, don’t they?  There’s something so refreshing about drinking something cold and bubbly, and today seems like the perfect day to treat yourself. 😉  Just because you are following a specific way of eating – Paleo, AIP (autoimmune protocol), or Whole30 – doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy food and drinks just like everyone else.  And the wonderful thing about this spritzer is that you can feel good about drinking it!  There’s no sugar added, it is kid and family friendly, and tastes great – perfect for so many different occasions.  We enjoyed it on a hot spring day on the farm, but it would be just as perfect at a dinner party with friends, holiday gathering, or baby shower.

This recipe was inspired by the Recipe Redux – a group of dietitian and healthy eating bloggers.  The Recipe Redux theme for May is Probiotic cocktails and Gut Health Mocktails, and I thought this would be the perfect time to share my favorite probiotic drink with you!  I have seriously been drinking this every.single.day this Spring.  It’s so simple and so good, and when I’ve had a long day, it is the perfect mid-afternoon pick me up!  The only problem with this recipe is that everyone else will love it too, and there may be none left for you.  My kids love this drink, and every time they see me with one, they want their own!  No judgment if you end up hiding in a closet guzzling yours down. 🙂

How to Make this Sparkling Citrus Spritzer

The ingredients are simple – hibiscus tea, kombucha, and orange slices.  I make a big batch of hibiscus tea and store it in a mason jar in the fridge so its ready whenever I need it.  The recipe makes an extra-strong batch of tea so when you add ice it won’t taste watered down.  Feel free to mix it up and add chopped berries or peaches instead of the orange slices – you can’t go wrong!

  •  Total Time: 5 mins
  •  Yield: 4 drinks 1x
  •  Category: Drinks
  •  Cuisine: American

Ingredients

SCALE
  • 2 tea bags hibiscus tea (I used Tazo Passion tea)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups kombucha (Choose a flavor that will go well with the fruit you’re using)
  • Ice
  • 1 orange, sliced into 8 slices

Instructions

  1. Heat water until steaming hot, add tea bags, cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Put the tea in the fridge to cool*. When it’s cool, mix 1/2 cup tea with 1/2 cup kombucha, pour over a cup of ice, squeeze the juice of 1-2 orange slices in, and enjoy!

Notes

*If you don’t have time to wait for it to cool, feel free to drink it right away, your ice will just melt and your drink won’t be ice cold.
