This paleo Blueberry Sauce only takes 5 ingredients and 10 minutes to make. Perfect for topping ice cream, pancakes, or paleo cheesecake, this AIP blueberry sauce will take any recipe to the next level!
Oh my! Where to begin? You have to make this sauce!!! Preferably today. It is shiny and smooth and perfect. It can be used so many ways. Ice cream topping, pancake syrup, fruit filled snack bar, pop tart filling, a layer in a yogurt parfait. The options are endless! This is so simple and scrumptious, and you must try it.
Tips for Making this Paleo Blueberry Sauce:
The recipe is pretty foolproof, but here are some tips that can help!
- Allow the blueberry sauce to simmer until the liquid has reduced slightly and the blueberries are broken down and coming apart.
- If you’d like, you can substitute tapioca flour for arrowroot.
- Honey can be substituted for maple syrup. You could also use coconut sugar, just add an extra couple tablespoons of water to compensate for the reduced liquid from the maple syrup.
- Frozen blueberries work great in place of fresh. I love frozen wild blueberries in this recipe!
- The mixture will thicken slightly more once it is cooled.
How to store this Blueberry Sauce?
Store this sauce in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. You can also freeze this sauce to use later! It can be frozen in a mason jar (just leave a little room at the top) or in a freezer bag or container.

How do you thicken a berry sauce?
There are a few different ways to thicken a sauce – you could let it simmer and reduce for longer to eliminate some of the liquid, and then puree it a little with an immersion blender to thicken it up, OR you could use a thickening agent. In this recipe, I used arrowroot to thicken it, but tapioca flour would also work. Cornstarch is a more common thickening agent, but it isn’t AIP or Paleo compliant. If your sauce isn’t thickening like you would like it to, add an extra teaspoon of arrowroot, let it simmer for a minute or two, and recheck it.
